About Precariat Musings

Who is it for?

All those toiling in the vineyards of the gig economy

How much does it cost?

Nothing.

Really?

Yes. No knock on those who do monetise their Substack newsletter, but I don’t expect you to take out a paid subscription. I’m not flogging coaching services, online courses or e-books. Hell, I’m not even trying to impose my political opinions on you, beyond championing the interests of freelancers stuck in the ideological no-man’s-land between labour and capital.

Does the world need more commentary about the gig economy?

Possibly not, but I like to think I’m bringing something fresh to the table.

Most writing about the gig economy is either drily academic, reads like a spittle-flecked rant from Gary Vee, or offers useful but quotidian advice about finding and managing clients.

Such content is necessary but, IMHO, not sufficient.

I believe there’s a gap in the market. A gap I’m hoping to address with a weekly deepish dive into a gig economy-related issue. All going well, you’ll end up with some fresh insights and have a couple of laughs if you invest a few minutes in reading my missives.

Who are you?

I used to be a print journalist, but I’ve been a corporate whore content provider for the last decade. Nowadays, I mostly write about business, finance and tech.

I’ve written about gig economy-related issues occasionally over the last five years (see here, here and here). I now plan to sally forth with my feelpinions every week via this Substack newsletter.

If you want to know more, you can find my business website here, my LinkedIn profile here and my Twitter here.

What’s your commenting policy?

I’m a free-speech absolutist, so I’m keen to hear your thoughts and loath to censor them. That noted, please don’t be a dick – play the ball and not the man.
